The Right2Know and SOS: Support Public Broadcasting Campaigns – ensuring access to quality, citizen-focused information on every level!

Right 2 Know campaign (KwaZulu-Natal) is hosting Kate Skinner of the SOS: Support Public Broadcasting Coalition for a series of workshops on Monday 22 August.

The “SOS: Support Public Broadcasting” Coalition is a membership-based coalition representing unions, NGOs, CBOs, community media, independent film and TV production sector organisations; academics, freedom of expression activists and concerned individuals.

 

 

The vision of the SOS Coalition is to create a public broadcasting system dedicated to the broadcasting of quality, diverse, citizen-orientated public programming committed to deepening South Africa’s Constitution, particularly the Bill of Rights and socio-economic rights.

The Coalition focuses on strengthening the SABC and also community radio and TV. Its particular focus is on ensuring that new comprehensive legislation is drafted for the SABC and community media that ensures their effective governance and funding.

Presentations will be hosted on Monday 22 August 2011 at the following venues:

 

  • 09.30am – 11.30am at DUT – City campus
  • 12.30 –2.00pm UKZN – 602 Memorial Tower Building
  • 6.00pm -7.30pm in the Fairvale School Hall – Tara Road
