JOB ADVERT: RIGHT2KNOW COMMUNICATOR
The Right2Know Campaign (R2K) is best known for leading the civil society campaign on the Secrecy Bill, but its work has expanded to tackle broader issues relating to access to information, freedom of expression, and the free flow of information. (Find out more at www.r2k.org.za.) R2K is an activist campaign driven by many people and organisations across the country.

We are looking for an intern to join our small full-time team that coordinates and supports the work of our activists. We want someone to amplify the work of the campaign, by telling the stories of activists on the ground and ensuring that R2K’s activities are documented and publicised. The successful applicant will also help to produce pamphlets & other popular education material for the Campaign.

This full time 6-month contract is based in Salt River, Cape Town and pays R6000 monthly before tax.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compile, edit and write articles and press statements
  • Compile monthly e-newsletter
  • Maintain website and social media
  • Ensure writing & editing of pamphlets and other material
  • Explore multimedia opportunities (e.g. commissioning community radio programme)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent writing skills (multilingualism is an advantage),
  • Strong computer skills and ability to navigate social media platforms essential
  • Ability to self-manage and multi-task, pay attention to detail, planning, organising and time management
  • A commitment to democracy and social justice
  • An understanding of various Right2Know issues
  • Ability to work well with volunteer activists in flexible team environments is a necessity
