REVEALED: Redacted papers from the SANRAL secrecy application

This is an update to R2K Western Cape’s involvement, with Section 16 and ODAC, in a legal dispute where SANRAL is seeking to keep information about tolling hidden from the public, alleging “commercial confidentiality”.

Following agreement with Protea Parkways Consortium (PPC), the 6th respondent  in the matter, a court order consented to by all the parties was handed down this afternoon, in terms of which a redacted version of the PPC application has been released to our attorneys at the Legal Resources Centre.

The in-camera hearing was still continuing this afternoon. SANRAL have advised that they are unwilling to allow even a redacted version of their application papers to be released.

This is therefore only a small part of the record, but an important glimpse behind the veil of secrecy in SANRAL’s application.
