2016 R2K ChampionsThe Right2Know Campaign presents the 2016 Champions for the Right to Know Calendar! The calendar celebrates some of the country’s courageous individuals and organisations that have made an important contribution to advancing the right to know.

BLIKKIESDORP JOINT COMMITTEE

The Blikkiesdorp Joint Committee have repeatedly challenged the City of Cape Town on access to information with respect to the airport runway restructuring plans and the right to housing. Read more.

ALFRED “GENERAL”MOYO

Moyo is a community activist in Makause who has faced harassment by the police, and who has gone to court to challenge the apartheid-era Intimidation Act which is to silence “troublemakers”. Read more.

MARIKANA SUPPORT CAMPAIGN/ UHURU PRODUCTIONS

Marikana Support Campaign/Uhuru Productions used the multi-award winning documentary, MINERS SHOT DOWN, to campaign effectively for justice for the murdered Marikana miners. Read more.

TOM NKOSI & ZIWAPHI NEWSPAPER

Nkosi is a community newspaper publisher & journalist based in Mpumalanga. He was threatened with criminal defamation for publishing allegations about political squabbles involving a senior Mpumalanga politician. Read more

GLEBELANDS COMMUNITY LEADERS

Glebelands violence has claimed many lives but the leaders of uBunye Bamahostela neZakhiwo Zawo, a non-political grassroots organisation that represents over 100 000 residents from nine of Durban’s ten hostels, has been working tirelessly to bring peace to the community. Read more.

VAAL ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE ALLIANCE/CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RIGHTS
