R2K’s Activist Tabloid: Your Right2Know December 2018

Greetings R2K comrades and supporters. Get our December edition of  Your Right2Know – our tabloid newspaper which strongly condemns the killing of activists who are targeted for speaking out against corruption across South Africa but mostly in KwaZulu-Natal. This edition also revisit an issue we featured in April around RICA surveillance. Cellphones companies are currently facing legal demand for surveillance information following their refusal to tell customers how much RICA surveillance is taking place on their networks. We also look at the right to protest violations by the City of Johannesburg which charges poor communities and groups ‘protest fees’ in order for them to exercise their right to protestFor years, R2K and allied organisations have refused to pay fees to the Johannesburg City Council (JCC) to protest, and in November we launched a campaign to demand that others are able to do the same. Finally, we elevate our demand to lower communications costs. In November, R2K appeared before the Competition Commission to demand industry regulations to bring down data costs. We have been calling for this since 2014 when we first launched the Vula ‘maConnexion campaign against high communication costs. We remain resolute that Data Must Fall.
