Fighting misinformation and defending free expression during COVID-19!

The Right2Know Campaign on behalf of the C19 People’s Coalition has written to the Presidency, Min of COGTA, Min of Justice and Min of Communications, regarding the so-called “fake news” provisions of the lockdown regulations that are currently being enforced.

Given the viral nature of misinformation and disinformation – especially on the open platforms on social media, and the potential deleterious effects of such misinformation on efforts aimed at flattening the curve, we recognise the importance of these provisions.

The proposed amendments seek to assist to safeguard the fundamental right to freedom of expression as contained in our Constitution and to provide the necessary clarity required in the provisions.
