Full-time paid internship with Right2Know

The Right2Know Campaign (R2K) is a nation-wide coalition of people and organisations campaigning for the rights to information and free expression. It was launched in August 2010 in opposition to the Protection of Information Bill – also known as the Secrecy Bill – currently before the South African parliament. Right2Know is offering a internship to fill the role of National Administrator immediately.

The internship will be based in Woodstock, Cape Town and comes with a stipend.

Responsibilities

  • Serving at the ‘front of house’ contact person for the campaign, 9 to 5;
  • Maintaining the database of campaign supporters and managing the campaign’s email lists;
  • Providing administrative support to provincial working groups;
  • Ensuring that financial records are well kept for the campaign;
  • Assisting with the R2K social media platforms;
  • Collaborating on press releases;
  • Assisting in coordinating protests and pickets

Requirements include:

  • Interest in access to information issues
  • Self-starter
  • Computer literate
  • Web savvy
  • Good communication skill

The following would be to your advantage:

  • Bilingual
  • Experience in activism or volunteering
