Info Access Now

The Right2Know Campaign has begun a new project called Info Access Now. We believe that the Secrecy Bill is a product of a much larger and overlying issue of transparency among the government. South Africans are living in a climate of secrecy, and as citizens we must demand accountability and delivery from our leaders. The basic needs of our communities are reliant upon the free flow of information between the government and its people.

To date, Info Access Now has held public meetings and workshops around the issues communities are facing trying to access information from the government. Different community based organizations under the banner of R2K took action- we went to the city of Cape Town and the provincial housing authorities and demanded access to information about budget reports, resettlement plans, housing allocation plans and land ownership within their communities. The city of Cape Town has provided some of the information requested through PAIA applications submitted by various community based organizations. We are currently strategizing and preparing to deal with the information that was requested and has yet to be delivered.
There is a long fight ahead as we grapple with corruption and lack of accountability and service delivery at every level of government. We invite you to join us as we push towards an environment that is open and fair, where the role of our leaders is to work with us, not hide from us.
